Text Box: This May, Mr. Tree (Jim McGuire) was kind enough to lend us his tree cutting services once again on the course. With the help of some very hard working volunteers, we were able to clean up a few dead trees and branches around the number 6 fairway and green. It was a very nice improvement to the area. Thank you to Jim and all of those that helped.
Midway through the season we had some equipment difficulties that led to the purchase of two new Kubotas. One is a very nice zero turn trim mower for mowing around greens, tees and trees etc. The other is a Text Box: Six straight days of rain, good for the grass but bad for the golfers! I guess this is the end of a very nice summer, who could have asked for a better year at Glass Hill? This year I welcomed in two new employees at the course, Jack Jones and Marty Williams. You can blame them for all the tough pin placements over the summer. I would never do that. All kidding aside I want to thank them both for the many extra hours they both put in around the course. Thanks to their hard work things ran very smoothly and I even got to take a three-day weekend in the middle of July!
Text Box: nice tractor with a front end loader and backhoe attachment. This one should prove very handy
over the next few years as we work to upgrade our irrigation system, plant new trees, and hopefully redesign some of the bunkers around the course.
No major changes occurred around the course this summer. We’ve backed off on our fairway overseeding for the last two years in hope that we can do a better job with proper water down the road. I think we all noticed the turf loss this summer due to the drought stress. It’s very unfortunate to see Text Box: Page #

Text Box: Text Box: However I won’t give up on the program. We will just delay seeding until we have better control the water. Hopefully along with the seeding we can also begin to deal with those pesky grubs that attracted so many skunks throughout the year. It seemed to me for every skunk I removed, two more came to dinner the next night! Talk about stinky table manners!
As much as I look forward to a little winter time rest, I sure will miss the warm summer weather we had this year. I hope you all have as nice of a winter as possible and return to the golf course next spring ready to play golf.
